Lemanak River/Batang Ai Iban Longhouse Safari
3 Days 2 Nights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Depart from Kuching, passing rice fields, sago farms, rubber estates, oil palm plantations with lush rainforest, rivers and mountain ranges.
Stop-overs at Pepper Farm, Serian and Lachau Bazaar before reaching the jetty. Enjoy a 45-minute longboat ride upriver, below overhanging trees, before reaching the Iban Guesthouse.
After dinner, join the Ibans on the common verandah where a welcome ceremony awaits. The evening’s entertainment includes cultural performances, music, games, drinking rice wine called ‘Tuak’ and social gathering with the people in the longhouse.
Day 2 : Depart the longhouse for a full-day jungle trek to learn about the forest privy and the traditional uses of rainforest plants in Iban culture. The trail also passes through the native burial grounds and watch the natives set up ingenious animal traps.
Lunch, Iban style, cooked in bamboo tubes over an open fire. After lunch, visit another neighbouring longhouse.
In the evening, return to the first longhouse for dinner and overnight in the longhouse.
Day 3 : Enjoy a blow-pipe demonstration, witness a cock-fight and take a jungle walk to learn about the forest privy and the traditional uses of rainforest plants in Iban culture.
The trail also passes through the native burial grounds and watch the natives set up ingenious animal traps.
Depart for Lemanak Jetty by longboat, then return to Kuching via the same route.
